It had been a challenging four days of competition at Culinaire Malaysia 2017 held in conjunction with FHM 2017 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

So on Awards Night, winners and the judges alike let loose in celebration at the Pullman Kuala Lumpur City Centre Hotel & Residences. A total of 1, 175 entries had been received for Culinaire Malaysia, with culinary teams from China, Taiwan, Korea, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, Australia, Brunei, Cambodia and Vietnam taking part.

There were two new categories of competitions – The Malaysian Global Chefs Challenge 2017, with the winner representing Malaysia in the Worldchefs Global Chefs Challenge during Worldchefs Congress 2018, and the MLA Golden Bull Culinary Challenge. It’s the first ever Australian beef and lamb competition that features the versatility of Australian beef and lamb for Asian and Western cuisines. Professional chefs took part in this competition.

For Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA), Culinaire Malaysia and FHM Malaysia 2017 present opportunities to develop new ideas for Australian meat in Asian and Western cuisine. “These initiatives are then reinforced by MLA through major projects and activities such as the Iron Butcher Challenge. Golden Bull Culinary Challenge and MLA Regional Banqueting Workshop,” said Andrew Simpson, International Business Manager, Southern Asia, Meat & Livestock Australia. “Together we can bring the culinary bar in Asia to even greater heights.”

The Thailand Culinary Academy team was the champion in the Golden Bull Challenge, with first runner-up Nancheng Dongee Culinary Srtudio and second runner up Fun Chef Taiwan.

Most Outstanding Malaysia Global Chef 2017 award was won by Amelia Ng Mei Vern from Hotel Istana Kuala Lumpur.

Convex Malaysia Sdn Bhd, which is the operator  of the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre , bagged four awards – for Most Outstanding Artist  Mustaffa Kamal Bin Othman, Most Outstanding Apprentice Muhammad Azfar Bin Ramli, Most Outstanding Chef Muhammad Shaharizal and Most Outstanding Team in Culinary. A rousing cheer went up each time the chefs went up to collect their awards.
